SkillPulse
Tracker

Context
Recently, I discovered a post by Sahil Bloom, an investor and entrepreneur whom I have been following since a while now. His insights on habit-building, which resonate with me and influenced by books like Atomic Habits, resonated with me.

After learning more about human tendencies and psychology, I got to know that I need to break things down to make it work – 30days, 30minutes.
While 30 days is long enough to require a real commitment, 30 minutes is short enough that it removes intimidation and allows you to mentally attack it.
Pre-start self- intimidation is one of the biggest drivers of stagnation. We make something too daunting, so we don’t take it on. New habits and improvement initiatives can often feel that way.

Goal

I believe that small efforts can lead to a bigger change in a person. The difficult thing is to maintain it and have consistency. My goal is - what can I make (product/ platform) or start that can continue this consistency for a person who needs to get good at something. How can I make the difficult part of the process simple and easy.

Intensity + Consistency = Progress
By this, I would like to design a tracker that pushes and motivates a person to continue with the 30 for
30 challenge.
Is consistency your problem too while achieving your goals?
92%
Do not worry
People deal with the same problem

What is the Issue?
1
Setting huge goals
and not breaking them down to smaller ones
2
Not deciding for next days work
A common mistake that causes a bigger negative impact cumulatively
3
Overcomplicating the process
4
Not monitoring the progress
I tried to formulate something that might help us all
From the post from Sahil Bloom
Simplifying the Process
Setting smaller goals
Breaking down into shorter time frames
30mins for 30days
1
Choose your arena for progress
How does this work?
2
Commit to focused effort in that arena for 30 minutes per day for 30 consecutive days.
3
Create a positive pressure loop. State your intention publicly or tell a friend or family member about your plan.
4
Track the daily execution/ save/ document with the calendar.
Keeping it quantifiable and simple to understand
Dashboard- Helps monitor the progress and planning your work
A short Story of Mr. Procrastinator

I need to focus and gain some skills for me to get good at what I do. God! I don’t know how long will it take. Probably a year!!
Is it even possible?

Woah, what is SkillPulse! It allows me to organize, view my calendar, enter data and store links to the content I watch for future reference as well. This is a nice one!

Using the Dashboard really helps man! I can’t keep my eyes off the screen looking at the progress I have made. Let me start with a new one (Skill).

Having the feeling of accomplishing goals in a much easier and organized way. Up-skilling day by day and improving yourself to greater levels over time!
How to Document these Parameters?

Calendar view inspired from Seinfield Calendar
He said the way to be a better comic was to create better jokes and the way to create better jokes was to write every day.
The goal of including a progress bar is to help keep completion rates high. As the thinking goes, people who are reassured that they're making progress will stay motivated to keep clicking through to complete the data entry.
Understanding the dashboard

Information Panel
Calendar
Statistics panel
Calendar

This section contains all the details in a zoomed out view. The user can see how many days into the work are they and what is yet to be conquered.

It shows a mini progress bar - a motivation boost to complete what has been started and learn a new skill.

It also shows multiple skills through color coding. This makes it easy to know about all the skills they are working on and what is the status of their progress
Information panel

This segment of the dashboard is the most important! It works as a data mine for the user. You can enter the description and the link to what helped you learn the particular day and thats all. It is saved.
You can get back to these links and data when you feel like you want to brush up. It can be a youtube link, a pdf, a book or any other content.

It comes with a relevance rater. You rate the content you just watched and it keeps the record. Come back and watch the most relevant source that helped you learn.
Statistics panel

You would always want to keep your accuracy a 100% by not skipping a day and breaking the streak!
These sections of the dashboard show you what is your status till date. How have you progressed and how much time have you put into it! It gives a boost of confidence just by looking it it! I know, everyone feels the same!
Core Advantages
Meaningful Commitment
Choosing a single arena for progress requires clear commitment that reveals whether you are physically and psychologically invested in the thing you want to improve at

Light Intimidation
Pre-start self-intimidation is one of the biggest drivers of stagnation.
Effective Compounding
30 days of 30 minutes per day is 900 total minutes of accumulated effort.

Happy to see you progress
